About Villa Amane
Hase, Nara – a place where ancient temples, shrines, and the timeless scenery of Japan still remain.
In this village surrounded by nature and history, you’ll be welcomed by birdsong, the scent of greenery,
fresh flowing water, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere.
Villa Amane – Amane-an is a small, private guesthouse located along the approach to Hase-dera Temple.
It's a retreat where you can spend peaceful, special moments with your family, friends, or loved ones.
Enjoy the warmth of a cozy, renovated traditional house, where the scent of wood and handmade details
invite you to slow down and unwind.
Hase-dera is home to Kannon, the deity worshipped by nobles since the Heian period – she also appears in the old Japanese folktale "The Straw Millionaire".
Why not spend time in the peaceful, storybook-like atmosphere of Hase, where the charm of old Japan still lives on?
Greetings from Villa Amane
The owners of Amane-an are an international family – a Japanese wife and mother, a German husband and father, and two sons, along with our beloved miniature dachshund.
A little about us: we moved from Kobe to Germany, where we now run "Hildegard Familie", a natural therapy school focused on traditional and homemade remedies.
Our family loves Nara deeply. Every time we return to Japan, we make sure to visit our favorite places: Ōkami Shrine, Nara Park, the Soni Highlands for camping, and hikes up Mt. Nijo and Mt. Kongō – spots that may sound familiar to those who have read the "Man'yōshū". We also have fond memories of visiting Asuka Village when our children were younger.
Nara's rich history, nature, and culture have always inspired us. Owning a guesthouse here had long been a dream –
so when we discovered this home, it truly felt like a miracle. Though it's an old house, we fell in love with it at first sight, especially the moss-covered garden.
We hope you’ll fall in love with Amane-an just as we did – along with all the people who helped bring this place back to life.
The themes of Amane-an are natural, handmade, and comfortable. Our family renovated this home with care, and we continue to refine it so your stay is as warm and pleasant as possible.
Many of the fixtures are made from original Nara-sourced materials and have been lovingly preserved in their authentic form. We’ve kept much of the house as it was, allowing you to enjoy the antique charm of traditional Japanese tools, furniture, and tableware.
Please enjoy the gentle, elegant, and peaceful atmosphere of Hase-dera and Nara during your time at Amane-an.
We are deeply grateful for your support.

Nara’s Hase-dera – One of Japan’s Hidden Gems
Villa Amane is located in a quiet and sacred area called Hase,
a historically significant Buddhist site.
This peaceful village, still largely untouched, offers a glimpse into the real Japan
– its silence, beauty, and spiritual atmosphere.
Nara was the capital of Japan from AD 710 to 784, and it was here that
Buddhism first flourished. Many of Japan’s early myths and historical events
trace back to the Sakurai area. In fact, Sakurai briefly served as the capital of Japan
during the reign of Emperor Yūryaku (457 – 479), when the Imperial court resided
at Hase no Asakura Palace. Other emperors also built their palaces nearby.
The area is home to many ancient Buddhist temples, offering a rich cultural and
spiritual experience. Hase-dera Temple, one of the most revered temples in Nara,
is just a 10-minute walk from Villa Amane. The road in front of the villa is part of
the sacred pilgrimage route leading to Hase-dera.
Along the way, you’ll pass through serene nature, discovering both Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples.
You can also enjoy hiking trails that allow you to experience the cultural, historical, and natural beauty of Nara.
We sincerely hope your stay will let you feel and experience the essence of ancient Japan.
Please relax and enjoy your time at Villa Amane in Nara.
